Me and the Treadmill
Hey this is Coby. Thought I would jump in here and tell you a bit about my new nemesis:
THE TREADMILL
I like to call it the DREAD-mill.
Ever since Daddy brought that infernal thing into the house, they have taunted me with it. It will come on and I go running. I know that Daddy uses it to run, but why does it have to move SO FAST? If I could scream in terror, I would. When it’s off, it’s harmless enough. I can even rest on it, but turn that lever and FORGET IT!
Well last night, mom and dad were bound and determined that I learn how to run on this horrific machine. Daddy grabbed my leash after Mommy lured me onto the dreadmill. Lo and behold, after getting a few paws going on it, it wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought. Heck, I might even WANT to do this again. I got a good workout. Mom and Dad are pretty smart. I guess they know it’s about to get cold out and I will still need my exercise.

Furry Friday: depressed
He looks a little upset because he is not being allowed to pursue a dog around the outside of the house, while he is inside. His whining is incessant when he does that so he is on the leash unable to run around and get after the other dog.

ARWNY Picnic. I missed it!
*tears* I had it slated for the picnic this Saturday but it was last Saturday! GAH! I am such a bonehead sometimes. I wish I had not have missed it. *sigh* What am I gonna do? I guess I will have to wait till next year. I hear that everyone had a good time, so that’s for that.

Cricket, be gone
He has been protecting the house extra well since I have allowed him free time outside. Last night he got the cricket. He got him good. I gave him praise and treats for that. I want him to really understand that intruders are intruders, no matter how big or small. I don’t think he will have any problem in case something were to happen. He likes to fight. He got it cornered, smacked it down, and made sure it was dead. Good dog!

Upgrading the dog supplies
Coby will have been with us a year in only 4 more months. It is about time I upgraded our dog supplies and got him some things to really settle him into our home. One item that has been on my mind is to get a dog seatbelt and seat cover. The seat cover will give him better grip, and keep my seat from being covered in fur. That is a must before winter. The seatbelt is necessity on slippery roads.
I hate to watch him have to stoop to eat. I have always liked the elevated dog feeder. Many of my friends have them. It would be ideal for him to have one, especially as he gets older. I would hate for him to have problems because I went the cheapest way out and got him the flat floor feeder.
The other thing that has been on my mind is getting another leash. He is a strong dog, still with a strong sense of hurting other animals. A retractable leash is ideal, but we have to get a stronger one. The one I have is for dogs his size, but I am uncomfortable using it with his recent antics. We now have a pitbull upstairs and he HATES pitbulls with unbridled passion. I would rather be safe than sorry. Right now we use a pretty strong nylon leash.
What other upgrades do you think we should consider? I have to get a steel cage sometime soon, too. Otherwise, he will be dirtying up his plastic one. That is NO fun to clean AT ALL.

The great outdoors
Since Coby has decided to stop trying to run away, we have given him a new freedom. He gets to sit on the side porch and experience the great outdoors a few hours every day. He loves it. He begs me to go out there every morning so he can spend time listening and looking around. We give him plenty of water and food, and check on him frequently. He is most content to just lounge around and watch the world go by.

Kids and Dogs: sneak the food
It wouldn’t be a home without the child sneaking random pieces of food to the dog. I have discovered whey the dog can’t leave my son alone when he is eating. How can he? Tasty morsels PURPOSELY thrown on the floor for me to eat? Dog heaven, right? At least it’s not anything toxic to Coby. Cheerios, rice, and an occasional noodle… although the noodles are given sparingly. My son likes them too much to waste them on purpose. Honestly, I think it’s okay because it is building a trust between them.
