Dog saves owner’s life
I just read an amazing story of how a dog’s quick thinking save his owner from choking to death. You really have to admire the sense that God gave animals. They say the woman wouldn’t be alive right now if it wasn’t for her loyal canine companion.

Furry Friday: lounging
Here is your furry friday for the week. They are getting along much better. The dog groans at him when he is tired instead of growling. I think he finally understands his place in the family structure.

Halti-n the Name of Love
I have decided to use the halti or gentle leader on Coby since the incident with him and the pitbull. I don’t want him going off into a tizzy when we encounter other animals. That and the training collar seem to be keeping him in check thus far. I have been using the halti for a few days now. I am glad that the ARWNY group reminded me that I had it so I could use it. Next step is to get another leash that matches the one that I have for the halti. I would rather use 2 short leashes than one short and one flexi…at least until he gets that he can’t just randomly run up on other people’s animals.
We left him in the crate after time for his bathroom break last night and he didn’t go in it. He didn’t try to escape either. I think we are making progress all around.

People aren’t as smart as pitbulls sometimes
It sickens me to read stories like this one and know that those dogs are destroyed on a daily basis due to lack of common sense. Pitbulls even know to warn you before they attack. It’s not fair, it’s not right. I hope that man gets what he deserves.

Mommy, My tummy hurts!
He threw up some wood chips yesterday. So, he has been eating wood. Great! Why? Who knows. He needs to stop.

Gang wars
Something told me to keep Coby on a short leash this morning. I am glad that I listened to that small, still voice.
We were taking our normal morning jaunt around the back part of the neighborhood, when suddenly we were met by the barks of two small dogs. One was on a walking leader stuck in the ground, the other was loose.
Well, Coby was ready for action as soon as he saw them. The pug *leader of the gang* was ready for action as well, as he trotted confidently up to Coby. His back up *the terrier-ist* was barking her head off in support for Pug. Pug was only about a foot and a half from where I stood controlling Coby. You could almost hear the commentary:

Pet food recalls
Please be aware of what foods have been recalled, as it could save the life of your beloved pets.
Right now Iams and Eukanuba are the main concerns of pet owners and pet stores. It looks like there has been a rash of kidney failure and deaths due to tainted vittles. It’s the wet food, not the dry. If your pet has been affected, please make sure to contact Menufoods about it.
Nestle Purina PetCare Co. and Hill’s Pet Nutrition Inc have decided to recall some of their foods as a precautionary measure as well.

Buy a tag, save a pet
A New Orleans pet rescue has teamed up with Big Paw Designs to create a unique opportunity for pet owners to help other pets find homes. Used Dogs has a number of pets ready to be adopted, but they need the help of people like us. There is a special charm on the website called the Woof Fleur de Lis. When bought, a portion of the proceeds will go directly to Used Dogs animal shelters and those like it. If you don’t want a dog tag, you can always get the keychain charm instead.
Consider helping out. There are a lot of animals that need the love of a forever family.
